NEW! E-Max 2026 review by Cycling Electric - 4.5/5 👏🏼
Earlier this winter, we invited specialists to come for an exclusive look and test of the new Max lineup. Mark Sutton at Cycling Electric has 20 years of experience in cycling press, this is what he had to say:
"For 2026, the Ahooga E-Max gets an upgrade on the Bafang driven unit we had for review previously and the pivot brings into play a Mivice front hub with a higher torque reading, plus a massive 700 gram weight reduction. It cannot be understated how welcome it is to cut weight from the front wheel of a folding bike. Quite simply, cutting weight at either end makes the fold so much more controlled as the hinges swing inward.
With this upgrade comes a smaller footprint for the motor and from what I could tell on a test ride, a generally smoother operation. There was no jumpiness in the delivery of the assist, albeit this latter test was largely on flat terrain. Another big perk is that Ahooga says that this motor switch has resulted in a 10% increase in range, albeit with the same battery, on account of efficiency gains. You’ll not see it, but refined routing of some of the electronic cabling also promotes better longevity for digital parts, such as the new 1.5 inch display."

"My first spin on the Ahooga E-max [in 2025] was pretty satisfying. Where competition is red hot in this space I've tested a heck of a lot of folding bikes now and, quirky as they are at times, they are very steadily getting a lot better. The Ahooga delivered a strong first impression, but at the time it did have some glitches that needed fixing.
Step forward into 2026 and I think the revisions that the brand has made make this a different animal. With a full system upgrade and a massive 2.5kg weight shaving from the bike, this is now competing with the best for performance and ease of use. When it comes to folding bikes, weight really matters, because you do end up lifting them as part of the fold, so kudos to Ahooga's engineers for this smart refinement."
